Enhanced provincial library inaugurated

LINGAYEN–With the opening of the new school year, Gov. Amado Espino Jr. has called on the students to use the Provincial Library, which is now housed in a newly refurbished structure located across the Capitol Resort Hotel here.

Facilities in the library have also been recently upgraded with the installation of 12 new computer units with internet connection in addition to existing systems.

Internet access is offered for free while there have been new books added to the library’s collection.

In a related development, Espino led the turn-over of books and other reading materials to the library donated by Glamorfe Vila-Olay, an alumna of the Pangasinan National High School (PNHS) who is now based in the United States.

Lolita delos Santos, asst. provincial librarian, said that the arrival of book donations started after the governor appealed to and encouraged the PNHS Alumni Association members during the school’s centennial celebration last year to help the provincial government in its advocacy to upgrade the quality of education in the province.

Delos Santos said collection of books has increased from 7,092 to 10,989. More donations are expected to arrive this year.

The Provincial Library is celebrating its 85th anniversary this month and a series of activities have been lined up starting June 9.
