THE Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA), in partnership with the Lyceum Northwestern University in Dagupan, is offering scholarships for technical-vocational courses.

TESDA Deputy Director-General Rogelio Pijuan said 90 percent of the global job market requires skilled workers.

“Skilled workers na nagtapos ng vocational o technical training ang kinakailangan sa buong mundo,” Pijuan said.

LNU offers some 20 short term courses that include automotive servicing, welding, consumer electronics servicing, bartending, tour guiding, housekeeping, massage therapy, beauty care and computer programming.

Lawyer Gonzalo Duque, LNU president, said he foresees a proliferation of polytechnic universities in the future offering vocational and technical courses because of the big demand in the world market.

TESDA is allocating P5 million for the university, which will cover, among others, the provision of machines and other training facilities.

High school graduates can avail of the 9,992 scholarship slots on offer.
