STA. BARBARA–Forget the Manila dream. Stay in the province.

This was the advice given by Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief Director General Jesus Verzosa to local policemen when he visited the town last week to inaugurate a three-room school building he donated to Minien-Tebag Elementary School.

In a speech, Verzosa said policemen, like the teachers, have a mission to help in the development of the youth and the community even as the compensation is meager.

He noted that policemen are actually receiving lower salaries than teachers.

Verzosa, however, gave assurance that the PNP is lobbying to make the policeman’s salary scale, currently at a minimum of P9,600 per month, at least on the same level as those of the teachers under the salary standardization program.

The police director-general also said it is not wise to migrate to the urban capital as life in the provinces is still easier.
