Cops, PDEA agents raid marijuana “backyard garden”

STA. BARBARA–Full-grown marijuana plants cultivated along a riverbank in Barangay Poblacion here have been uprooted by police and anti-illegal drugs agents last week following a tip from a member of the community.

Superintendent Eric Noble, the town police chief, said the discovery was part of a buy bust operation conducted by the local police with agents from the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA).

The information provided by a member of the barangay intelligence network lead to the arrest of the two suspects in charge of the marijuana garden, identified as King Melchor Ramos y Ragos (alias “King”) and Boyet Estrada y Sarmiento (alias “Hapon”).

Both suspects are residents here of Poblacion Norte and positively identified to be in the PDEA watchlist.

The uprooted marijuana plants were taken by the PDEA agents to their office for subsequent examination. A case of violation of Republic Act No. 9165 (Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002) is being prepared against the suspects.

“The suspects were previously under our surveillance, and were also in fact listed in our ‘pasaway’ list,” Noble said.

‘Pasaway’ is a popular Filipino jargon referring to a person who is repeatedly reprimanded from misdemeanors. #
