DCNHS lass wins BCBP ‘Be Honest’ oratorical contest

SIXTEEN year old Edellyn Aurelio, a senior at the at the Dagupan National High School, was declared champion orator at the 2-city ‘Be Honest’ oratorical contest sponsored by the Christian Brotherhood and Professionals (BCCP)-Dagupan chapter at the People’s Astrodome last Wednesday afternoon.

Aurelio will represent the city in the region-wide competition in Baguio City on November 22. The Grand National contest will be held on February 6, 2009 at the PICC.

The runner-up winners were Eiya Marie Paragas of the Mother Goose Special Science High School, 2nd place, and Prexy Lou Pascual of the Dominical School, 3rd place.

Theme of the contest was “How to live the virtue of honesty as a Filipino youth and student,” which, Engr. Romeo Rosario, BCCP chapter head, said, “stresses the importance of character building among the youth.”

Other schools represented were DCNHS Carael Annex, DWAD, Judge Jose de Venecia National High School, La Salette School, St. Albert the Great School, Urdaneta City National High School and Ednas School.

The three winners received P5, 000, P3,000 and P2,000 cash prizes respectively.

The board of judges was composed of Jun Velasco, chairman, Judge Alicia Decano, Judge Teodoro Fernandez, lawyers Alvin Gonzales and lawyer Abigail Querubin-Aquino of ABS CBN (represented by Myrna Palaganas).

Alex Hortaleza, project coordinator, said the activity “is part of the BCBP’s campaign to promote honesty in public and private life.”

Acting Mayor Belen Fernandez was on hand to welcome the participants while City Administrator Alvin Fernandez underscored value of living honestly at all times in his speech.
