CALASIAO–More Pangasinenses expect to gain employment after earning their certificates of completion of training programs conducted by the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA).

More than forty per cent of 3000 trainees from the Ilocos Region who have completed their training programs were Pangasinenses.

TESDA Provincial Director Ponciano Catipon Jr. said 54 per cent of TESDA’s graduates are already employed locally and abroad.

Meanwhile, 3,863 Pangasinenses have already completed TESDA’s ladderized education program as of June this year.

The ladderized education program is open to undergraduate college students who want to take an equivalent vocational education for a collegiate diploma while working.

The status of TESDA’s graduates is closely monitored by requiring its graduates of technical and vocational courses from TESDA private schools to give date about their employment.

Catipon said the monitoring mechanism enables TESDA to determine who are already employed and who are still unemployed and also to find out if more training is required to get employed.

TESDA refers and endorses its graduates initially to the Provincial Employment Service Office (PESO).

Meanwhile, TESDA is giving out P12 million worth of scholarships to Pangasinenses through their congressmen, in addition to the latter’s outlay for scholarship funded by their respective Priority Development Assistance Fund.

Rep. Jose de Venecia Jr. allotted P1.5 million; Rep. Arthur Celeste, P1 million and Rep. Victor Agbayani P500,000. Rep. Rachel Arenas vowed to allot as well.

Meanwhile Mark Cojuangco and Conrado Estrella III also vowed to to build their own technical vocational training centers instead of allotting these for scholarships.—LM
