BAYAMBANG -Third District Rep. Rachel Arenas has expressed her support for the passage of the pending reproductive health bill at the House of Representatives.

Arenas said while she is a practicing Catholic and follows the church’s teachings, she believes that a law on reproductive health is necessary to alleviate poverty.

Pointing out that government must support the choices of married couples, Arenas noted that most families in the rural areas today have more than four children.

“The situation for the family is aggravated when the parents are unemployed, leaving the family starving and the children out of school,” she said.

She said the worsening economic plight of families living below the poverty line is the main reason why she now supports the RH bill.

“I am looking at it on the economic side,” explained Arenas who is among at least 17 women House representatives supporting the proposed law.

At the same time, Arenas hailed the expansion of CSI to Bayambang and earlier in San Carlos City and Malasiqui, which are all within the third district.

She said CSI’s expansion is good for her constituents because it creates employment opportunities.—LM
