Pitaki cyclists lead series

PANGASINAN’s elite cycling group, the “Pitaki Boyz,”, pace the national criterium cycling series after four weeks of road racing both in individual and team competitions in the open-elite category.

The 12-man Pitaki Boyz squad leads the individual event through its member Mangaldan prideand former RP team member Renato Sembrano, followed by his two teammates Sherwin Carrera of San Fabian and Reynaldo Navarro of San Jacinto.

With Arnel Quirimit, 2003 Tour Pilipinas king, skippering  assisted by 2008 Tour of Pangasinan titlist Merculio Ramos, Jr., the team being sponsored by Guam-based Jazy Sportswear leads in the team competitions.

The Philippine Army squad being paced by 2007 Padyak Pinoy champ Victor Espiritu is in second spot.

Guimba Cycling Team of Nueva Ecija province takes the third spot.

According to race director Ric Rodriguez, the fifth leg of the series dubbed as the “Araw ng Maynila Cycling Challenge — Mayor Alfredo Lim Cup” will be held on July 6 at the four-kilometer per round  hotdog-shaped course in Roxas boulevard which will start and finish at Baywalk.

Twelve teams are participating in the open-elite division plus more than 80 contestants in the youth and executive categories.

The fifth leg, which was supposed to be held on June 22, was postponed due to Typhoon Frank.

Rodriguez also said that the last leg of the annual  short-circuit-course in road racing will be held in Dagupan City and most likely to be staged on November at the newly-constructed 4.5-kilometer Lucao-Pantal-Dawel road.—JAG, Jr.
