Fisherfolk get free Bangus fry

LINGAYEN—Some 10 million pieces of bangus fry will be given away to fisherfolk who were affected by Typhoon Cosme.

The fishery rehabilitation program in the province started on June 13 with Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) Regional Director Nestor Domenden and the provincial government leading the distribution of 3,770,000 bangus fry at the Regional Mariculture Techno-Demo Center (RMaTDeC) in Lucap, Alaminos City.

The activity was the first of the three batches of bangus fry distribution planned by the provincial government, BFAR and Department of Agriculture (DA).

Among the first recipients were fisherfolk from Alaminos and the municipalities of Sual, Dasol, Bani, Anda and Bolinao.

Another 3,770,000 bangus fry distribution is scheduled on July 4 at BFAR-SROI in Dagupan City for fisherfolk of Binmaley, Lingayen, Bugallon and Labrador.

The last distribution of 2,460,000 bangus fry is set on July 25 in Casantaan La Union for Sto. Tomas, San Fabian, Mangaldan and Calasiao as well as three coastal towns in La Union.

Gov. Amado Espino, Jr. expressed his appreciation to BFAR for looking into the needs of the small fisherfolks affected by Cosme.

Meanwhile, Finfish Hatcheries, Inc. donated another 1 million pieces of bangus fry to Pangasinan.—PIO
