ALAMINOS CITYBayanihan system is the hallmark of reconstruction and rehabilitation in Alaminos, one of the many places in Pangasinan devastated by Typhoon Cosme.

In the aftermath of the calamity, Mayor Hernani Braganza immediately created Task Force Bayanihan to oversee relief and immediate rehabilitation of public services, livelihood initiatives, other basic services, policy review, info-dissemination, food for work program and fund-raising drives.

Task Force Bayanihan is composed of the city’s departments including the Alaminos City Police Office, the 106th Police Mobile Group, Public Order and Safety Office, reservists, radio communication group and other civic and community organizations.

“Our citymates worked as one community and we were able to clear all the debris and all our roads were made passable within 24 hours after the typhoon,” the mayor said.

Foremost among the priorities of the task force is the repair or reconstruction of classrooms and clearing operations inside the campuses, he added.

He said that through the Brigada Eskwela Program of the Department of Education and with the support of the barangay officials, Parents Community Teachers Association, officials, and students, the city was able to repair damaged schools.

“Our equation is very simple: (construction) materials plus bayanihan equals rebuilding schools for our children,” the mayor noted— LM
