SISON—The next election is still more than two years away but talks are already rife that this town’s mayor, Kimi Cojuangco, is already being groomed to succeed her husband, Mark Cojuangco, as congressional representative for the 5th District.

“It’s still an undecided thing… although there is a clamor,” the mayor said, adding “But I’m not yet paying attention to that.”

The Cojuangcos own the Northern Cement Corporation (NCC) in this town but are not originally from Pangasinan.

Mark Cojuangco, however, has already built a political track record and is now serving his third and last term as congressman of Pangasinan.

He is reportedly planning to run as mayor of Urdaneta City, which is part of the 5th District.

Incumbent Urdaneta Mayor Amadeo Perez Jr., meanwhile, is said to be interested in reclaiming his old post as congressman, which will pit him against Kimi, who is on her first term as municipal mayor.

It was Perez who introduced Mark Cojuangco into the political arena in Pangasinan.

Mrs. Cojuangco said she is happy because for the first time in 15 years, her town which is classified under the fourth class level, logged in an P8-million savings because of her program to improve tax collection. #
