Pangasinan joins KAPILI Women’s Month celebration

LINGAYEN—The pro-vince joins the nationwide Women’s Month celebration this year with the theme, “CEDAW ng Bayan, Yaman ng Kababaihan”.

CEDAW, for Convention on the Elimination of all forms of Discrimination Against Women, aims to raise the consciousness of women on their rights and empower them to become self-sufficient individuals.

The National Commission on the Role of Filipino Women (NCRFW), the country’s lead agency, has called on all local government units to generate re sources to finance initiatives on gender equality and empowerment of women.

Meanwhile, the provincial government of Pangasinan, through its provincial social welfare office, had organized the Provincial Federation of Kalipunan ng Liping Pilipina (KALIPI) in compliance with the Republic Act of 7192 or the Women in Development and Nation Building Act

The organization’s mandate is to help encourage the province’s womenfolk to participate in the development efforts for their own advancement.

Provincial Social Wel fare Officer Emilio Samson Jr. said the passage of RA 7192 aims to promote the integration of women as full and equal partners of men in nation building.

With already more than 12,000 members and at least 472 fully organized groups at the barangay level, the KALIPI is now headed by Consolacion Penulliar from Mapandan.

The province’s KALIPI chapters, led by municipal social welfare development officers, help women aged 18-59 years old, get involved in entrepreneurial and livelihood activities.

KALIPI is embarking on a “Program Edification for Best Practices” or Lakbay Aral as one of the major activities of this year’s Women’s Month celebration.#
