Pangasinan PNP launch text help desk

LINGAYEN—Police help is now just a text away.

The Pangasinan police launched on Monday its “Pulis Ko, Textmate Ko” project in different public schools in an effort to encourage students, teachers and their parents to immediately report any untoward incident in their community and speed up police response.

People can now promptly text their concerns to the police through mobile phone number 09185154721, or place a landline call to telephone number 075-5427185, the central help desk for the province.

Superintendent Tito Dacpano, chief of police community relations, told The PUNCH that they visited various schools here in the capital city, in Dagupan City and Binmaley town to introduce the project.

The project, a brainchild of Chief Superintendent Leopoldo Bataoil, police Ilocos regional director, is fully supported by Senior Superintendent Isagani Nerez, provincial police director, who has instructed his town and city police chiefs to visit different schools in their respective areas for wider dissemination.

Marilou Llamas, Lucao Elementary School principal said they are happy that their school was first visited by Dacpano’s team for this project.

She said the medium for this crime-prevention project is very apt and effective for the student populace which is considered as a “text generation”.–EVA

DAGUPAN POLICE

Meanwhile, the Dagupan City Police has deployed at least 58 additional policemen on the streets in support of the “Balik Eskuwela” program of the Department of Education.

Deployed are new recruits who just graduated from the Regional Police School and are now undertaking their field training in Pangasinan for five to six months.

Supt. Edgar Basbas, chief of police of Dagupan, said he new policemen have been assigned to areas near schools.

Basbas said the increased police visibility was affected in order a crime preventive measure and help ensure safety of some 300,000 students in the city.

At the same time, a lecture team consisting of policemen and civilian personnel was formed to enlighten pupils and students on the dangers posed by illegal drugs and other vices.—EVA/A.P.E.
