5th Bayambang bikefest gets the best on the road

PANGASINAN’s best amateur cyclists will hit the national highways anew when the annual Bayambang bicycle road race reels off  on April 10 in line with the celebration of the town’s fiesta.

The fifth edition of the bikefest, dubbed this year as “Kabarkada Tour de Tercero Distrito”, will start at 10:30 a.m. traversing twice all the municipalities of the third district of Pangasinan with an approximate distance of 150 kilometers. It will start and finish at the municipal hall.

Mayor Leo de Vera, who is spearheading the project, said, “We are staging this event yearly to continue the development of our youth and hope to discover potential athletes in the process who will bring honor to our beloved province.”

The event, exclusively for Pangasinenses, will be participated in by a maximum of 60 riders   led by defending champion Ariel Flores of Mangaldan.

Well-known philanthropist Engr. Rosendo So, the principal sponsor of this year’s road battle, announced that P30,000 in cash prizes plus trophies and medals will be at stake.

“Holding sports activities are the best ways to curb the drug menace afflicting our society today. We are also optimistic that our cycling, boxing, basketball and other sporting events will bear fruit for the province in the near future.” said So.

The top winner wins P6,000 plus a trophy while the first and second runners-up earn P4,000 and P3,000, respectively, and trophy each as well.

The fourth placer will receive P2,000 while fifth gets P1,000. The sixth to tenth   finishers collect P500 each. Fourth to tenth placers will also receive a medal each.

 The eleventh up to the last finisher will be handed an incentive prize of P200 each.

Negotiations are ongoing as of press time for the airing of the entire event over the radio.—JAGJr.
