Webczars beat LNU-Dukes in “sibling” competition

THE University of Pangasinan (Upang) Webczars defeated its visiting sister team Lyceum Northwestern University Dukes, 69-60, in a friendly game dubbed “A Sibling Rivalry” at the UPang gym Tuesday.

The Webczars took the lead early and never looked back as their top men pounded the hoop without let up in the first half of play.

The first half ended with the Webczars leading by an eight-point margin, 36-28.

In the early part of the second half, the Arellano-based varsity team led by as much as 15 points as they continued with their good outside shooting and tenacious team defense.

However, the UPang boys committed several passing errors in the last quarter which allowed the Dukes to come within 5 points in the last 2 minutes of play at 65-60.

Webczars head Coach Angel Gumarang was forced to call a time out to plot their offense and later managed to organize a suffocating defense.

After the crucial time out, the Webczars blanked the Dukes, 4-0, in the closing minutes.

Gumarang said, “There wasn’t much problem with our defense but our offense was miserable in the 4th quarter.”

“Coming off a time out we were able to execute our plays in the last two minutes to win this game,” he added.

The Webczars onslaught was led by Albert Carcha and Virgil Odero, with 18 and 14 points, respectively, while Cris Cayabyab scored 16 and Nenel Indoy had 15 for the LNU Dukes.

Meanwhile, the first game between the UPang nursing team and Lyceum Northwestern University nursing team ended in a 75-75 draw.
