Dagupan Karate team tops RP Olympic Festival

YMCA-based Dagupan City team once again proved its dominance in karate in the region by bringing home six golds, four silvers and three bronzes from the 2nd Philippine Olympic Festival North/Central Luzon/CAR Region Championships held March 5 to 11, 2007 in Vigan City.

The team, composed of 9 players, made its strong presence in the early period of the competition.

John Enrico Vasquez of Mother Goose Playskool captured the first gold in the 6-7 years old boys Kata (forms); John Meverick Edralin won the gold in the 12 to 13 Boys Kata; Jayson Ramil Macaalay, both from the Lyceum Northwestern Creative Montessori, won a gold each in the 14 to 15 Boys Kumite and Kata; Jona Reyes of University of Luzon won the gold in the 16 to 17 Girls – 45 kgs Kumite (Sparring) and silver in the 16 to 25 Girls Kata;

Dan Kurt Vidal of Ednas School won the Gold in the 10 to 11 boys Kumite and Bronze in Kata; Gerard Martin Tamayo of Dagupan City National High School won the silver in the 12 to 13 Boys Kata and bronze in Kumite; Fidel Salvador Reyes of University of Luzon won silver in the 14 to 15 boys Kata; Jimko Alcantara of Precious Minds won silver in the 6 to 7 boys Kata; and Rhys Palaganas of Mother Goose Special Science School won the bronze in the 10 to 11 boys Kata.

The team was supported by the Dagupan City Government. 

The sports event, a project of the Philippine Olympic Committee, was participated in by Dagupan City, San Carlos City, Baguio City, Benguet, La Union, Nueva Ecija, Pangasinan, Angeles City, Pampanga, Ilocos Sur, Ilocos Norte, Bulacan and Tarlac.

Robert Adventajado Secretary General of the Philippine Olympic Committee awarded the medals to the winners.
