Segui, Fernandez shine at 5th Barkadahan Golf games

Dr. Rod Segui, past president of the Dagupan Golf and Beach Club (DGBC), made a good start in his bid to wrest the Player of the Year Award by firing a 6 over par 75 to emerge as gross champion at the 5th Barkadahan Golf Tournament held at the Dagupan Golf Course on January 28.

The surgeon-golfer’s game started shaky with early bogeys on holes 1 and 3 after landing in sandtraps, but he later gained ground with a birdie at the 11th hole for a 2-over at the back nine.

In his flight were Director Albert Balingit, Col. Raul Ubando and 2006 Player of the Year Ed Sorio.

Sharing the limelight at the well-attended tour was Dagupan Vice Mayor Alvin Fernandez who carded a 57 net score to clinch the lowest net plum.

Rounding up the winners were: Class A – Rico Dagalea, champion; Arnold Lioanag, 1st runner up, Raul Ubando, 2nd runner up. Class B – Ed Poserio, champion; Jun Salgado, 1st run ner up; Bong Caramat, 2nd runner up. Class C – Oscar Lim, champion; Gary Velasco, 1st runner up; Dr. Rueben Balinao, 2nd runner up.

Richie Abalos, the club president, awarded trophies and raffled off prices to the winners and participants, and announced that the next tournament will be on February 18 to be sponsored by Chimes Enterprises president Ed Poserio.

Meanwhile, three teams of the DGBC participated in the Rotary Golf Foundation Tournament held at the Baguio Country Club and Camp John Hay in Baguio City from January 18-20.

They claimed the top three places in the President’s Division. Team 2, composed of Rod Seguie, Juancho Benin, Toto Juan and Manny Velasco, emerged as team champion.
