CALASIAO—Three done, one to go.

The municipal government simultaneously inaugurated three projects on Monday while holding a soft-opening the day before for another project scheduled for completion soon.

Inaugurated were the Fire Station building costing P480,000 funded by the town’s coffer; the Senior Citizens building worth P1 million, which was put up through funds released by party list Rep.Ernesto Giddaya; and the P1-million Multi-purpose Training Center financed by the municipal government.

Partially opened on Sunday was the Calasiao Sports and Commercial Center, which can accommodate 4,000 people at one time when completed.

Mayor Roy Macanlalay said all these were put up with the help of the Sangguniang Bayan led by Vice Mayor Ferdinand Galang, which appropriated some of the funds used.

The mayor said the initial fund used in the construction of the sports center were contributed by House Speaker Jose de Venecia Jr, P5 million; Rep. Generoso Tulagan of the 3rd district and another P1 million from Undersecretary for Local Governance Antonio Villar Jr.

These are in addition to the P7.8 million released by the municipal government and P1.5 million from fiesta proceeds in 2002 and 2003.

Macanlalay said although still unfinished, the basketball court in the sports center can now be used. The roofing and bleachers have yet to be installed.

A basketball tournament, dubbed Kaaro Cup, organized by the local Sangguniang Kabataan Federation led by Allan Roy Macanlalay, is already being held there.

An engineer himself, the mayor assured his town mates that the project will be completed soon. He said Manny Garcia of the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office, promised to provide funds for the roofing.

The sports center, being built following specifications from the Philippine Basketball

Association will have 28 commercial stalls, at least 15 of which had already been reserved.

He said to date, investors have visited the town and expressed intent to open a bank and restaurants along the row of front stalls.
