UPang cager wins dribbling tilt

TEENAGE and rookie player of the University of Pangasinan Webczars basketball squad Lennel Manalo emerged as the “fastest” Pangasinan basketball dribbler by winning the Astig Revicon Dribbling Challenge held last October 14 at the University of Pangasinan gymnasium.

Manalo, 18, of barangay Gueset, Dagupan City was proved to be more agile than the rest of the 46 participants in the six round-format competitions  to pocket the P10,000 top prize plus a bronze trophy.

Andro Bonin Gray of Sta. Barbara was second to bag P5,000 while Antonio Sergio Mejia from Mangaldan placed third to net P3,000.

Gian Carlo Cruz and Albert Carcha, also from the Webczars team landed fourth and fifth, respectively, good for P1,000 apiece. All the major winners received gift packs from the sponsor Revicon.

The five and ten others, who also received gift packs from Revicon,  namely Randy Macaranas, Bryan Santillan, Joel Estrada, Audrey Aurelio, Joey Abalos, Joe Vincent Castro, Mcgyver Caballero, Alfie Fernandez, Richard John Sison and Isidro Tagulinao will represent Pangasinan in the national championship to be held on October 28-29 at Pasay City Sports Center.

According to the organizers, the fifteen will join 45 other dribblers from the cities of Cebu, Davao and Manila to try break the longest world dribbling record of 26 hours and 40 minutes. A cash prize of P500,000 plus a huge trophy and the honor of being the record holder to be listed in the “Guinness Book of World Records” will be up for grabs.

If the world record is attained, the winner in the national tiff will receive P250,000 plus trophy.

Joining the Pangasinan team as officials are Jay Ronquillo, Jorge Ceralde and Renato Soriano.
