SAN FABIAN marquee cyclist and Tour de Langkawi veteran Sherwin Carrera proved that his September 16th Mayor Romero’s Cup victory in Mangaldan was not a fluke at all by conquering the fifth leg of the prestigious Criterium Search Invitational (CSI) bikefest held in Marikina City last Sunday.

Carrera, 21, a member of the dreaded Pangasinan Pitaki Boyz squad broke away in the last of 30 rounds from his four breakaway partners with nothing to spare against the lanky five-foot-eleven native of barangay Nibaliw Center to pocket the P5,000 top prize.

2004 Tour Pilipinas runner-up Lucien Llyod Reynante of Muntinlupa City out sprinted the four-man second pack to bag P3,000. Manila stalwart Virgilio Duenas came in close third good for P2,000.

Novo Ecijano sturdy rider Bernard Luzon and another Manileno Dante Cagas landed fourth and fifth, respectively, and earned P1,000 each.

There were 42 accredited contestants and all of them survived the two-kilometer per loop 60 kilometers bikefest.
