LINGAYEN – The seat of the provincial government must be zero-waste and environmentally sound.

This was the directive of Gov. Victor Agbayani to Provincial Administrator Atty. Virgilio Solis, who immediately met with all department heads and chief of offices to map out new strategies for the effective implementation of garbage segregation in the capitol area as part of the province’s Solid Waste Management Program.

Initially, Solis directed the department heads to closely monitor the implementation of waste segregation in their respective offices to ease the collection of recyclable and non-biodegradable wastes.

Gov. Agbayani has constructed a Material Recovery Facility (MRF) near the Capitol equipped with garbage collection vehicle and full-time staff.

He reminded the provincial officials that one of the governor’s major thrusts is the development of the Capitol area as primary tourist destination and proper waste disposal is an integral component of the undertaking.

“Let us make our working place clean inside and out and this could only be done by empowering our department heads to regularly monitor their respective staffs in waste segregation,” he said.
