BIR Region I tops in collection

CALASIAO – While the collection of the Bureau of Internal Revenue nationwide fell below its target, the Ilocos regional office as well its district office surpassed its target.

The BIR regional office here topped the collection performance nationwide from January to May this year with more than P2.7 billion in actual collection or an increase of P52.20 percent over the same period last year.

Then, the revenue district office number 4 also based here reported a total collection of more than P424 million, exceeding its goal collection by 8.23 percent.

The BIR regional office had a target collection of P1,818,631 for the first five months of the year butit actually collected a total of P2, 768,029,509.76 or an excess of P949,398,509.76.

The district which covers the cities of Dagupan and San Carlos and 14 other towns in central Pangasinan.

From January to May, they collected a total of P424, 610,870.90 or an excess of P32, 289,870.90 from their target collection.

Joseph Catapia, revenue district officer, attributed this to the success of their efforts in educating the taxpaying public about the importance of voluntary tax compliance which makes up 97 percent of their campaign.

The remaining three percent is collected from audit or investigation, he said.

    He added that since he assumed his post here on Nov. 18, 2004, his district office consistently met its monthly collection targets. – EVA
