LINGAYEN – On paper, the provincial government has responded to the clamor of its employees for higher wages to cope with the higher cost of living.

It gave the go-signal for the release of additional P1,000 in compensation allowance retroactive to   January  this   year.

But Governor Victor Agbayani, in his memo to all chiefs of offices and all chiefs of hospitals last May 11, said the release would  depend on the monetization of the Internal Revenue Allotment (IRA) by the Land  bank of the Philippines and upon the enactment of a supplemental budget by the Sangguniang Panlalawigan.

Pangasinan’s total IRA receivable is P114 million but based on the Arroyo admi-nistration’s policy, an interest will becharged against it by Land Bank for monetizing it.  P40 million of the IRA is expected to be released this year to cover both the additional compensation allowance (ACA) of the employees and P8 million earmarked for development projects.

According to Board member John Agerico Rosario, the provincial board will immediately pass the supplemental budget required to support the release of the additional allowances.  – EVA
