The Haven for Children opened

THE Regional Center for Children built by the Congressional Spouses Foundation, Inc. headed by Mrs. Gina de Venecia was finally inaugurated in Bonuan Binloc in Dagupan City last April 1.

It coincided with the organization of grieving mothers in Pangasinan under the auspices of the Inang Naulila sa Anak (INA), co-founded by Mrs. De Venecia with Aloha ‘Ali’ Sotto.

Guest of honor and speakers in both occasions was Social Welfare Administrator Esperanza Cabral who cited the support of the CSFI for the DSWD to help less fortunate members of the Philippine society.

The regional center for children, called The Haven for Children, will address the needs of street children, abandoned by their parents to fend for themselves, and those hooked on drugs.

Ailene Olegario, social welfare of the DSWD and in-charge of the center, said at least six boys from Urdaneta City and four boys from Dagupan City are being processed to become the initial wards of the center.

The Haven for Children’s building named Kristina Casimira Building in honor of Gina’s youngest daughter KC. Will gather together street children abandoned by their parents.

The center, she said, will serve as home away from home for street children aged six to 13 years, in Pangasinan, La Union, Ilocos Sur and Ilocos Norte where they will be rehabilitated, restored of their self-worth and healed of the wounds inflicted upon their tender bodies.

The first meeting of the local INA Foundation here was an emotional experience for many after mothers who lost their beloved children shared their own grief.

Mrs. De Venecia said the establishment of INA Foundation; a grieving mother will not find herself by her lonesome in coping with her loss.

The foundation will mobilize grief counselors to console and advise grieving mothers.

The Department of Trade and Industry and the Development Bank of the Philippines had been tapped by Mrs. De Venecia to provide loans for livelihood of grieving mothers.
