SAN CARLOS – “It is not true”.

This was the claim of an official of the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology here to the charge that they always serve the same recycled food to the inmates.

SJO2 Rodolfo Lavarias, chief supervisor of the BJMP here, said on the contrary, they are serving varied menus to the inmates, and not just only one set, as alleged, for the inmates’ required balance diet.

Lavarias said his office regularly submits records of the menu that they serve to the inmates to the BJMP regional office.

“With this record, we cannot hide the kind of food and menu that we serve for a particular day, as well as the amount spent for such food, subject to the regulations of the Commission on Audit.

The inmates have charged that given what was served them, it was evident that the jail officials did not fully utilize the budget allocated for their food. But Lavarias insisted that their records on the subsistence allowance of inmates are open to scrutiny by anybody.

“If we are doing something anomalous here, it cannot be kept secret for very long because all eyes are focused on us everyday,” he added.

At the same time, Lavarias said all rules and regulations inside the BJMP are being implemented fair and square for everybody, and not only for the benefit of only few.
