ALAMINOS CITY – Alaminos City has joined the race in cyberspace and information technology.

Surging ahead of its peers in the province, the city government, in partnership with the private firm Everything Online, has launched last Friday the country’s first Information-Communication Technology (ICT) Infrastructure Project here.

Mayor Hernani Braganza signed a memorandum of agreement with Macky Samaco, Everything Online president; PLDT Product Manager Blue Aldridge, AsianTech Business Corporate Manager Imelda Dela Vega, MYEMR Solutions Sales Manager Christopher Ledesma and Ronnie Nery of NetVoice for the project.

The project, known as the ‘Kaalaman Ng Bayan’ (KNB) Strategic ICT Plan, is a landmark initiative of the city government to provide extensive internet connectivity to the city residents, especially the students and youth.

The infrastructure will give birth to the establishment of a 15-package, one-stop Internet CafT Plus to be franchised by Alaminios City.

The project complements the city’s ICT Center which was established almost two year’s ago in cooperation with Canadian Non-Government Organization Engineers Without Borders (EWB).

The ICT center currently teaches out-of-school youths including local government employees and school teachers, and even barangay officials, basic computer courses for free.

Under the computer literacy program, the city is investing in both the future of the youth and the nation’s growing IT literacy.

“This initiative will certainly kick -start the city’s information technology society parallel to our vision for a well-educated citizenry by year 2015,” Braganza added.

The program will make it possible for public school students and teachers to gain high speed access to global information highway needed for their learning and quality teaching instructions.

Once established in each school, regular internet software for educational purposes, Licensed Microsoft Operating System, E-Learning and College Entrance Exam Review Software, Voice-over Internet Protocol (VOIP) international Calling, My Electronic Medical Record Applications and Job Search and Matching Software will be readily available to students and their mentors.
