Basista principal relieved

BASISTA – Some education officials still don’t get it.

A school principal here was sacked for implementing a very questionable “no payment, no examination” policy among his students in spite of previous directives in the past prohibiting such a policy.

Relieved effective last Monday was Herminigildo Sabangan, principal of the Dumpay Barangay High School, who reportedly ordered his teachers to implement the “no payment, no exam” policy since August last year.

Dumpay Barangay Captain Leonardo Caranto who led in protesting the policy, said Sabangan was finally relieved by Division Superintendent Dr. Alma Ruby Torio of Pangasinan 1.

Caranto said parents and students protested Sabangan’s “no payment, no exam” policy as anti-poor and anti-education.

He said he led in the protest against Sabangan, in spite of the fact that the latter is his god son, because the students cannot afford to pay their yearly fees of P120 and P400 computer fee over the short period of time on which it was imposed.

Torio sent her legal coordinator to Basista and he enumerated all the policies promulgated by the Department of Education to Sabangan and pointed out that the “no payment, no exam” policy is not one of them, Caranto said.

Tapped to replace Sabangan was District Supervisor Rosalinda Arenas who will serve in an acting capacity.

Dumpay being a community largely populated by farmers, students therefore can only afford to pay their contributions in a span of 10 months, Caranto said.
