The speaker personally distributed the cards issued by the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation, to indigent families last Feb. 11 and 12 to in Manaoag, San Jacinto and Mangaldan.

Some 2,000 indigent families in each of the towns received the cards.

De Venecia resumed the distribution of 2,000 other PhilHealth cards in San Fabian and 3,000 others in Dagupan City on Feb. 17 and 18, respectively.

PhilHealth Regional Director Ernesto Beltran assisted the Speaker in distributing the PhilHealth cards.

He told newsmen that he paid the premiums for these PhilHealth cards from his own assistance fund at P600 per beneficiary, representing one half of the total premium for each beneficiary.

PhilHealth shouldered the other half of the total premiums.

The PhilHealth card provides the holder and all members of his family free hospitalization and medicine.

De Venecia said he actually just renewed the membership of the beneficiaries who were enrolled previously.

The beneficiaries were recommended by their respective barangay captains, chosen based on their financial status.
