Ferrer re-elected PB-USA president

EDDIE C. Ferrer was recently re-elected president of the 35-year old Pangasinan Brotherhood-USA, the umbrella community organization representing all towns and cities of the province.

He, along with the new sets officers, will be inducted on May 10 at the Marriott Hotel in Long Beach.

Ferrer vowed to continue the group’s scholarship program, their flagship project that was started by Dan E. Nino, his predecessor.

Currently, the association supports five scholars enrolled in various colleges and universities of Pangasinan.

The other new officers are: Lino F Caringal Jr, executive vice-president; Roger Cabal, Marites O Bautista, Oscar Camacho, Claro Guico, Perlita Rasing and Rey Rodrigo, vice-presidents; Flordeliza Soriano, recording secretary; Juliet Gasmen, corresponding secretary; Linda Hortaliza, assistant secretary; Gilda dela Cruz and Julie Estrada, treasurers; Elizabeth Garcia and Arsenio Valencerina, auditors; Noemi Dumlao and Josephine Etrata, public relations officers; Cecilia Ranches and Lito de Vera, business managers; Leoncio Dumlao and Abe Velasco, marshals.

The officers who chair the different committees are Lydia Ceralde, scholarship; Nieves Coguia, membership; Nandin Soriano, finance; Tony Barlongo, ways and means; Dom dela Cruz, community relations, Bong Soriano, youth hospitality; Jojo Braganza, special events and Nino, communications director. Ferrer led a seven-man trade mission delegation last year in Dagupan City aimed at exploring the possibility of linking US buyers to import Pangasinan products. The second phase of the project is in the planning stage.

During Ferrer’s incumbency, the PB-USA donated $3,000 for housing units to the Namnama Gawad Kalinga in Villasis, considered as an ideal venue for cottage industries.

Teaming up with the association’s different officers, Ferrer also initiated a fund-raising campaign for the victims of typhoon Yolanda. Billed as Operation Tulong, the PB-USA will work closely with Bishop Crispin Varquez of Borongan Diocese of Samar who appointed Fr. Ven Amidar as the US-based contact for the project.
