2 guns-for-hire killed in Urdaneta shoot-out
URDANETA CITY--The leader and a member of a guns-for-hire syndicate operating in Pangasinan were killed during a shootout with the police who were serving the warrants of arrest before noon Thursday.
        Killed was John Rey Andres, alias “Elias Salvador” and “Menu”, a native of Occidental Mindoro, allegedly the leader of the Almeron-Andres Group, which has a string of murder cases in Pangasinan, and Occidental Mindoro.


Kapitan detains Red Cross volunteers 
THE provincial office of Red Cross in Pangasinan is set to take legal action against the barangay kapitan of Barangay Diket in Umingan for alleged illegal detention of six Red Cross volunteers last Thursday.
         Floramae Magalong, Red Cross provincial officer, said she will relay this “emotionally stressful” incident to their legal office for proper action against the barangay chairman identified only as Falcon who locked up six Red Cross Pangasinan volunteers inside a room in the barangay hall for almost an hour.
 




 




 






 


 

 




 






 

 


 

 

 

Mangaldan mayor seeks rival’s disqualification
MANGALDAN--Reelectionist Mayor Herminio Romeo could be running unopposed in the May polls if the Commission on Elections (Comelec) grants his petition to disqualify his lone opponent, Bonifacia De Vera Parayno.
        Romero filed the case after Parayno submitted her certificate of candidacy for Mayor on December 10, 2009, alleging she is not qualified to run for any public office because of her dual Filipino-American citizenship.



'Meningo' scare in Dagupan contained
THE Dagupan City Health Office reported on Thursday that the meningococcemia scare in Barangay Bonuan Boquig, where a four-month old baby boy who died on January 30 with suspected symptoms of the disease, is now over.
         City Health Officer Dr. Leonard Carbonell said the boy’s parents and other people he had contact with have undergone voluntary isolation and have taken prophylactic medicines.



NBI launches 'barangay' project
THE National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) office in Pangasinan is linking up with barangay leaders to improve crime prevention and solution through intelligence gathering on the ground.
         Lawyer Rogelio Mamauag, NBI chief in Dagupan, said the “NBI sa Barangay” project was launched January 27 in a gathering attended by 73 barangay chairmen from Malasiqui town.
