BARANGAY CAPTAINS DRAGGING THEIR FEET
Only 750 shotguns in custody
LINGAYEN—Only a little more than 50% of
the shotguns issued by the provincial
government to the barangay kapitans last
year have been turned over to the police
following a recall made in line with gun
ban being implemented for the May 2010
elections.
Senior Supt. Percival Barba, police
provincial director, told The PUNCH
Friday that 750 shotguns are now in
police custody while others are awaiting
Comelec’s and his action on their appeal
for reconsideration.

Feasibility study for Malimgas Market
too rosy
THE Malimgas Market project looked great
on paper.
The past city administration under
mayor Benjie Lim built the Malimgas
Market based on a feasibility study,
conducted by a consultant from Manila,
which projected a 16 percent internal
rate of return.
“This (rate of return) did not
materialize,” said City Administrator
Alvin Fernandez, who was then vice mayor
when the market was built. |
PLAYING WITH FIRE
The McAdore issue
By
Gonzalo Duque
SOMEONE reacted to our column item last
week regarding our suggestion that
congressional candidate, our kumare
Celia Lim’s picture on her political
billboards should be replaced with one
with a smiling face.
We said that her foto, although
not without the aura of her innate
beauty, projects a serious face. Kung
sabagay, may mga problema ang ating
distrito na dapat harapin
seriously... and so if our suggestion
would require a costly retouching, we
take back our advice.

Manay Gina, GMA friends anew
THE De Venecias and
President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo have kissed and made
up.
But the renewed friendship, according
to Gina de Venecia, has no political implications just
yet.
She also admitted that she could not speak for her
husband, 4th District Rep. Jose de Venecia Jr., when
asked by the media if he has also made amends with the
President whom he suspected to have instigated his
ouster as Speaker of the House of Representatives two
years ago.
