SP suspends Mayor Pulido
ANDA–Mayor Nestor Pulido is now facing a 30-day suspension after the provincial board on Monday handed down a guilty verdict in an administrative case filed against him by members of the town council.
Pulido, in an interview with The PUNCH, said he will appeal what he called a "politically-motivated" decision and is prepared to exhaust all legal means to overturn the verdict.
PUNCHLINE
Using technicality to serve the wrong

By Ermin Garcia Jr.
The suspension order of the provincial board meted to Anda Mayor Nestor Pulido reminds us of the way the Department of Justice prosecutors sought the dismissal of the case vs. the "Alabang Boys" - the use of a seeming lapse in technicality to promote a self-serving agenda.
Manaoag police is region's best
MANAOAG–The police station here, headed by P/Superintendent Mateo Casupang, was adjudged the Municipal Station of the Year in Region 1 for 2008.

Casupang will receive the award for the Manaoag Police Station in a ceremony at the Philippine National Police Regional Headquarters at Camp General Oscar Florendo in San Fernando City, La Union on January 28.
Prosecutors begin hearing case vs. mayor's assassins
LINGAYEN–The preliminary hearing for the murder of Agno mayor Arthur Cabantac last year starts on Monday at the Provincial Prosecutor's Office with at least eight witnesses set to testify against the three arrested suspects.
Superintendent David Rapisora Jr, deputy police provincial director and head of Task Force Cabantac, said the testimonies of the witnesses summoned by the court will be crucial for determining whether there is probable cause to pursue the case.
