Japanese shot dead, wife survives stabbing
TAYUG--A business transaction that went awry led to the death of Japanese national and the stabbing of his wife here last Tuesday afternoon.
        The victim, Kato Suzuki, alias “Kart”, 56, was shot with one bullet in the head while his Filipino wife Lily Ylarde Susuki sustained several stab wounds in the body.

Parish wins in fight vs. illegal quarrying
SAN FABIAN--The vigilance and activism of the members of the local Church community, led by their parish priest, paid off in its fight against wanton quarrying along the long stretch of Bued River.
        According to Father Oliver Mendoza, parish priest, the provincial government recently issued a cease and desist order to the provincial environment office stopping quarrying in the area in response to their complaints.

Mapandan inaugurates its new municipio
MAPANDAN--The much-awaited inauguration of the town’s new municipal hall was finally held.
        Costing P23 million, the two-storey building was inaugurated last Wednesday coinciding with the 40th birthday of Mayor Jose Ferdinand Calimlim.
        He said it is his legacy to the people of Mangaldan while on his last term of office after a nine-year public service.

Justice caught up with kagawad after 25 years
SAN CARLOS CITY--A barangay kagawad here was finally arrested almost 25 years after he was convicted of homicide.
        The police arrested Barangay Kagawad Domingo Ferrer, 61, at the barangay hall in Matagdem.

Rescue and survival seminars set for towns
ROSALES--Learning its bitter lessons from the massive devastation by Typhoon Pepeng last month, the local government here has began a series of seminars on rescue and survival last Nov. 13 for municipal disaster coordinating council officials in the province.
         Mayor Ricardo Revita said he sent invitations to various municipalities including their police, fire service, barangay council, among others to avail themselves of this program that will be handled by a foreign-trained person on rescue and survival aspects.
