AS EXPECTED
SRPC, NPC execs: Not guilty
LINGAYEN--It was all "Pepeng's" fault.
This was the opinion given by an official of the San Roque Dam as the Sangguniang Panlalawigan conducted an inquiry on the possible causes of the worst flooding in the province's history when Typhoon Pepeng hit on Oct. 9.
119 leptospirosis cases recorded in Pangasinan
AT least 119 people in the province had so far been afflicted with leptospirosis, according to the Center for Health Development (CHD) of the Department of Health (DOH) in Region 1.
In the entire Ilocos Region, 268 cases have been recorded.
The report covered the 18-day period from October 2 to 20, during which four deaths were recorded. Another 20 deaths have been reported as of October 25.

Ilocos cops on alert for "Undas"
CAMP BGEN OSCAR M FLORENDO, La Union--The police force in the Ilocos Region is on full alert for the duration of the observance of All Saints' Day and All Souls' Day on November 1 and 2 (locally known as undas).
Chief Superintendent Ramon Gatan, regional police director, has ordered the augmentation of route security, traffic management and preventive patrol operations in the provinces of Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, Pangasinan and La Union.

Dredging continues but flooding can't be stopped
DREDGING of rivers continues daily in Dagupan but city officials believe this does little to mitigate floods when heavy rains fall again.
The dredging is seen to at least help in hastening the return to the sea of water that spilled inland during every tidal rise, according to City Administrator Alvin Fernandez.
Villegas takes over Diocese November 4
SECURITY will be tight in Dagupan when some 500 dignitaries, including high-ranking Catholic Church officials, flock to the city to witness the canonical installation of Bishop Socrates Villegas as archbishop of Lingayen-Dagupan on November 4.
Villegas, 49, former bishop of Balanga in Bataan, succeeds Archbishop Oscar Cruz whose retirement at the age of 75 was accepted September 8 this year by the Holy See.

Pepeng wrecks city’s illegal fishpens
It took the wrath of Typhoon Pepeng for the Dagupan City Sanggunian to unearth what appears to be a conspiracy in the city hall to promote and protect illegal operations of fish pens in the city's rivers and tributaries.
After an inventory in the aftermath of Typhoon Pepeng, it has been determined that 50 per cent of some 700 bangus fish pens originally allowed to operate located in various rivers here were illegally operating.

Agat Bridge in Sison now partially open
SISON--Travel for light vehicles between Pangasinan and La Union via the flood-damaged Agat Bridge, across the Bued River, is now possible following installation of a temporary bridge, the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) regional office announced.
However, the temporary structure only has a one-way lane and vehicular traffic from both directions will be set in turns.
