Cruz blames GMA for people's distrust
LINGAYEN--Dagupan Archbishop Oscar Cruz said President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo only has herself to blame for the lingering doubt among majority of the people about the credibility of Malacañang's pronouncement that the 2010 elections will push through.
        Cruz, in an interview with The PUNCH, said Arroyo has repeatedly committed duplicity, citing as an example how she announced that she would not run for president again but eventually did in 2004.

POSO can't confiscate driver's license - Lomibao
THE Land Transportation Office (LTO) is planning to hold a summit in July to resolve contentious issues including confiscation of an erring driver's license for traffic violations - who has authority to do it?
       
LTO chief Arturo Lomibao said he will invite representatives of local government units and the Highway Patrol.
        He noted that even personnel of the Public Order and Safety Office (POSO), who are not deputized by the LTO, are confiscating driver's licenses.

Dagupan SP tackles education priorities
THE Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) in Dagupan approved on May 25 Resolution No. 4509 requesting the local school board to allocate an amount from its annual budget for the construction, repair and maintenance of various schools in the city.
         Under the Local Government Code, local school boards are allotted a Special Education Fund from one percent of real property tax revenues intended primarily for the improvement and development of school facilities.


 

 

Private sector helps public schools
Where the education of the young is concerned, the business community has began to take an active role in improving facilities in Dagupan City's public schools.
        One such effort is the elevation of the flood-prone elementary schools in Dagupan City to a higher level for the safety of students, teachers and other school staff.

Kidney transplant recipient is now a civil engineer

OPAL tapping river for potable water
ALAMINOS CITY--The 10 local government units in the first district of Pangasinan that organized themselves as 'One Pangasinan Alliance' (OPAL) are now developing a common source of potable water with the help of the Canadian International Cooperation Agency (CIDA).
         Alaminos City Mayor Hernani Braganza said the potable water project that will tap water from the Balincaguing River in Mabini was already started in January and is set for completion 10 months from now.
