HB 4267 A GERRYMANDERING
Espino slams redistricting
LINGAYEN--Governor Amado Espino Jr. has slammed the proposed redistricting of the province, saying House Bill 4267, which contains the move, is tinted with gerrymandering.
The proposed law, authored jointly by Reps. Victor Agbayani of the second district and Rachel Arenas of the third district, is not based on public consultation and a thorough study, according to Espino.
Agbayani defends HB 4267
SECOND District Rep. Victor Agbayani said selfish political motives torpedoed and blocked the approval of House Bill 4267, containing a proposed redistricting of the province which he authored.
"This would have been the proper time to do it," Agbayani told Pangasinan newsmen after the Senate committee chaired by Senator Benigno Aquino II failed to act on the bill.

An old ordinance may settle boundary spats
Vice Mayor Belen Fernandez said city council staff had unearthed an old ordinance passed by previous legislative council of Dagupan that can help settle boundary disputes between and among barangays.
Fernandez earlier ordered her staff to conduct a research on archived ordinances even as the city council formed itself into a quasi-judicial body last Monday to hear the boundary dispute between Barangays Pogo Chico and Barangay IV.

Rains worsen situation in Emong-hit areas
BOLINAO--Classes went on as scheduled in areas devastated by Typhoon Emong, but students had to bear worse conditions as continuous rains last week poured down their makeshift school rooms, mainly tents or damaged classrooms covered with temporary roofing materials.
Mayor Alfonso Celeste, who proposed to postpone the opening of classes in his town, lamented the students' situation and criticized the local Department of Education's (DepEd) decision to push through with the original June 1 schedule despite the severe damages that the schools suffered.
"Game of generals" seen in Pangasinan
MANGALDAN--The generals are coming home to Pangasinan, this time to try their try their luck in the game of politics.
Several retired or soon-to-retire top military and police generals are eyeing various elective posts in local governments in the province or in congressional districts in the May 2010 election.
Basic lesson from A(H1N1): Stay clean
A prominent doctor in Pangasinan said there is a valuable lesson to be learned from the Influenza A (H1N1) virus that is currently on the spread - observe personal and social hygiene and maintain a healthy body.
Dr. Vivencio Villaflor, medical director at his family-owned Villaflor Doctors Memorial Hospital in Dagupan City, said these simple practices are often neglected and taken for granted but are,   in fact, very important in avoiding infection by viral diseases.

P9M MISSING CITY FUND
San Carlos cashier tries suicide

SAN CARLOS CITY--The cashier-designate of San Carlos City involved in a dubious case of a hold-up involving P9 million of government fund attempted to kill herself.
Leny Fermin, who is now recovering in a hospital, will be a key subject in the investigation of the case by the National Bureau of Investigation, the Commission on Audit, and a fact-finding team created by the city's mayor, Julian Resuello.
