TYPHOON VICTIMS' WOES WORSEN
Profiteering sets back reconstruction effort
ALAMINOS CITY--Dealers of construction materials in this city have been warned by the local government against profiteering as rehabilitation and relief operations shift to high gear in areas within typhoon-devastated Western Pangasinan.
Retail sellers of construction materials, i.e., galvanized iron, nails, lumber, and cement, among others, speculating on the increased demand, have reportedly jacked up their prices last week prompting Mayor Hernani Braganza to order City Administrator Wilmer Panabang to investigate.

Don't call me a drug lord! - Datu Bagul
DATU Michael Bagul, president of the Dagupan City Muslim Association, has denied he is involved in any illegal drug dealing, and decried being labeled a "drug lord" by the government and the local media.
In a handwritten letter (in Pilipino) to The PUNCH, with an attached copy of his counter-affidavit in a complaint filed against him by agents of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) before the City Prosecutors Office, Bagul said all the accusations leveled against him by PDEA were untrue.
Bangus industry loses P1.1B due to 'Emong'
PANGASINAN's bangus industry suffered staggering losses estimated at P491 million from the destruction caused by Typhoon Emong on May 7, particularly in the worst-hit towns of Anda, Bolinao, Sual, and Alaminos City.
Combined with the damages in the bangus-producing areas in La Union, total losses are estimated to reach P502 million, according to Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Region 1 Director Nestor Domenden.
