WORSE THAN "COSME"
"Emong" wreaks havoc in Western Pangasinan
LINGAYEN—Several towns were isolated and left without electricity as western Pangasinan absorbed the brunt of Typhoon "Emong" that lashed out Thursday night.

A report from the Provincial Disaster Coordinating Council said hardest hit were Bolinao, Anda, Agno Burgos and Bani as the typhoon exited to the Lingayen Gulf towards La Union and Benguet.
1st District, under State of Calamity
DEVASTATION caused by Typhoon "Emong" prompted the provincial board to pass a resolution on Friday declaring a state of calamity in the first district of the province.

The state of calamity proclamation will give the affected areas access to the calamity fund. Aside from Bolinao, Anda and Alaminos City, which were hardest hit by the typhoon, other towns in the 1st district include Bani, Dasol, Burgos, Agno, Mabini, Infanta, and Sual.

Vets differ in opinion over hog disease
TAYUG--The disease called Porcine Reproductive Respiratory Syndrome (PRRS) that has infected some pigs in Pangasinan has yet to be fully contained and still two veterinarians have expressed opposing views about it.

Dr. Rodolfo Custodio, president of the National Federation of Hog Farmers in Pangasinan and the association's national director, maintains PRRS is curable and does not pose any serious injury on the animals.

SP rejects provincial jail turn over
LINGAYEN—Provincial board members unanimously rejected a proposal made by the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) to immediately transfer the full management, administration and control of the provincial jail over a three-year transition period.

"You want (us) to assume full control during the transition period? What kind of transition is that? No way," said 6th district Board Member Alfonso Bince Jr. during the hearing conducted Monday.
Mangaldan peryahan: Closed-open
MANGALDAN—Mayor Herminio Romero took steps to finally stop the illegal operations of the "carnival games" on Rizal Avenue after a businessman and his companion were gunned down in the premises on May 2 at 1:00 p.m.
Superintendent Roberto Vocal, town chief of police, said the mayor issued the order stopping the carnival games in front of the Visperas Poultry Supply, where Jose Moulic Jr., 47, and Wilson Abalon, 27, were killed.
Ranjit: "I shall return"
It was Ranjit's turn to say "I shall return".
Ranjit Ramos-Shahani, former vice governor in 1992 to 1995 and later a two-term representative of the 6th District, announced he is making a comeback in politics in 2010.
"I want to come back to help," he said in Ilocano during a press conference.
Shahani, son of former Senator Leticia Ramos-Shahani and nephew of former President Fidel Ramos, said he has the blessings of both his mother and uncle for his plans.
