Preview of the week's headlines
BANGUS FESTIVAL HAS ARRIVED
1 million join street party
GOVERNOR Amado Espino Jr. and Vice Governor Marlyn Primicias-Agabas, in solidarity with Dagupan City officials, momentarily left the Pangasinan Pista'y Dayat on Thursday night to join the grand Bangusan Street Party, the culminating event for the 2009 Bangus Festival, on Jose R. de Venecia Expressway Extension in Dagupan City.
It was the first time that top provincial officials made their presence felt in the Dagupan Bangus Festival since this was launched in 2002. Dagupan, a chartered city, is not under the jurisdiction of the provincial capitol.
Laoag, Candaba win top prizes in Festival of the North
NOTWITHSTANDING the rain, Laoag City and Candaba, Pampanga emerged the happiest delegations in the Festivals of the North on April 27 after winning the top prizes in the city and municipal categories.
The Laoag City group performed their Pamulinawen Festival dance while Candaba showcased their Ibon-Ebon Festival during the street dancing competition held at the Dagupan City Plaza as part of the ongoing Bangus Festival.

Deaths of local hogs not by swine flu
LINGAYEN--Don't panic.

This was the advice of Provincial Veterinary Office to the public as he clarified that there is no confirmed swine flu case involving pigs in Pangasinan.
Dr. Benedicto Perez, provincial veterinarian, said the cause of deaths of some 50 pigs in several towns is Porcine Reproductive Respiratory Syndrome (PRRS) and hog cholera, not swine flu as earlier suspected.

Swine flu scare pulls down pork price
PRICE of pork in the market dropped by as much as P20 per kilogram following the swine flu scare, particularly a rumor spread that backyard piggeries in some parts of the province were infected with flu.
Dr. Rodolfo Custodio, vice president for Northern Luzon of the National Federation of Hog Farmers and also the president for the group's Pangasinan chapter, said news of the global swine flu infestation and the suspected swine flu cases here drastically pulled down the farm gate price from P110 per kilogram in February to only P90 this week.
JDV SAYS
One more congressional district for Pangasinan

PANGASINAN will have one additional legislative district once a special legislation is approved in the House of Representatives providing for the creation of new districts in the Philippines.

Fourth District Rep. Jose de Venecia Jr. said under the proposed law, the first, second, and third districts of the six existing districts will be re-configured to form a seventh district.
Mangaldan cleanest town, Bolinao  cleanest municipality
MANGALDAN has been cited the "Cleanest Municipality with the Cleanest River" in the province's Pakar Award.
The Pakar, a local word implying the protection and preservation of the environment were handed out on April 25 as part of the opening of this year’s Pista’y Dayat celebration on May 1.
