5 SUSPECTED KFR MEN DEAD
PNP: Shootout, not rubout
URDANETA CITY --Was it a shootout or rubout?

This is the question being asked days after five men, allegedly members of a kidnap-for-ransom (KFR) gang, were killed in a reported shootout in Barangay Palina West here on the night of April 19.

An autopsy conducted by Dr. Ronald Bandonil of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) in Baguio City showed four of the slain men sustained gunshot wounds in the back.
Nothing will stop Dagupan Bangus Festival
RAIN or shine, the show must go on.
This is the battlecry raised by Mayor Alipio Fernandez Jr. as rains hit many parts of the country, including Dagupan, last week, which is one week into the Dagupan Bangus Festival 2009 with another week to go.
The Bangus Festival, considered as Dagupan's mother of all festivals, fired off April 15 with 18 events already successfully held despite last week's unexpected rains almost every afternoon in this summer month of April.

FVR slams Asingan mayor
ASINGAN—Former President Fidel V. Ramos urged local officials of Asingan, his hometown, to arrest the steady and marked deterioration of the Asingan Tourism and Recreation Center (ATRC) which he put up during his presidency.
In an open letter to Asingan Mayor Carlos Lopez, Ramos threatened to file criminal charges if nothing is done to fix the place.

"I am constrained to put on record the current state of affairs regarding the ATRC. As a resident and continuing taxpayer of Asingan, and beyond that as a concerned Filipino citizen and elder, I may be forced to initiate criminal charges against you, and others equally liable and accountable," Ramos said.

SP wants to declare Lapus persona non-grata
LINGAYEN--Provincial officials are incensed at Education Secretary Jesli Lapus.
Members of the provincial board are, in fact, considering declaring Lapus persona non grata to Pangasinan for ignoring appeals over the unauthorized teachers' guidebook project of the provincial government and the administrative sanctions imposed on the two schools division superintendents.

Fourth District Board Member Jeremy Agerico Rosario said provincial officials feel slighted by Lapus "for not even giving a space of consideration to our requests".
Binmaley mulls seafood strip as destination
BINMALEY--A food strip along Don Amado Espino Sr. Avenue serving seafood fare, i.e., bangus, siganid (malaga), shrimps, prawns, and crabs, among others, will be erected to attract tourists to the town.
Binmaley Mayor Simplicio Rosario said each eatery will offer cooking services for fresh seafood which the customers can purchase from an adjoining common seafood market.

Speaking during the 'Kapihan sa Lenox Hotel' here on Wednesday, Rosario said this will promote Binmaley’s rich harvests of aqua-marine products.
Pangasinan's Pista'y Dayat reels off
LINGAYEN—This year's Pista'y Dayat kicked off on April 25 with the holding of the Banca Parada, a fluvial parade.
Colorful and aesthetically designed bancas sailed early morning along the three major river systems of the province namely: Agno River, Pantal-Sinocalan
River and Cayanga-Patalan River.
The various offices of the provincial government and commercial sponsors were represented in the parade.
