Barba's 'love letters' end cattle
rustling
SAN CARLOS CITY--Cattle rustlers here
seem to have been intimidated by the
letters sent by Senior Superintendent
Percival Barba, police provincial
director, warning them to stop their
illegal operations.
Superintendent Noel Vallo, city police chief here, said no instance
of cattle rustling has been reported
since the issuance of what he called the
provincial director's "love letters" to
suspected cattle rustlers last February.
Espino, Cruz praise Sec. Duque
GOVERNOR Amado Espino Jr. and
Lingayen-Dagupan Archbishop Oscar Cruz
may not see eye to eye on several
issues, but they agree on one thing: the
exemplary performance of Health
Secretary Francisco Duque III.
"Sec. Duque is a model public servant that we in government should
emulate," Espino said in light of recent
surveys listing Duque as among the best
performing cabinet members, and the
Department of Health as one of the least
corrupt government agencies.

Pigar-Pigar: Manny Vent Cornel's legacy
ON late, late nights in early 1980s, the
late PUNCH editor Magno 'Manny' Vent
Cornel, who relished being referred to
as
"anak na managtalaba",
would go to the market just to buy a
kilo of beef, fresh from the
slaughterhouse.
He would bring the beef to Isao
Bulatao who maintained a 'turo-turo'
eatery on Galvan Street being
patronized mainly by tricycle drivers,
market 'kargadores' and other
late street hangers-on.
