Gatchalian, is new BAP-Pangasinan commissioner
Manny Gatchalian, a veteran arbiter of the Basketball Association of the Philippines (BAP) Referees Commission, was voted the new BAP Provincial Commissioner during the election held at the University of Luzon (UL) Review Hall on March 14.
     Gatchalian, UL's head of publication section, was unanimously elected by 104 members.
     With officiating experiences in National Inter-Collegiate Basketball Championships, National PRISAA and Philippine Open, Gatchalian pledged professional  growth  for referees under his leadership.

Ex-mayor, journalist Padua writes 30
ARTURO Padua, a former public official, journalist and patron of Philippine cinematic arts, passed away on March 26 at age 70 due to a lingering illness.
      
The provincial board passed last week a resolution condoling with the family of Padua, who served as a provincial board member from 1972 to 1984 after years as mayor of his hometown Sison.

 

 

University of Luzon gets autonomous status
The University of Luzon has been granted autonomous status, the first in Northern Luzon, by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED).
       Under an autonomous status, the educational institution will enjoy more independence as it will be free from regular monitoring and evaluation by CHED.

"Mac-Mac", UP grad cum laude
DAGUPEÑO Marc Andrew "Mac-mac" Oviedo Perez is graduating as one of the top in his class for the degree Bachelor of Science in Basic Medical Sciences (INTARMED) from the College of Medicine, University of the Philippines-Manila.
      
Mac-Mac, the eldest son of Engr. Marcos Perez Jr. and Dr. Marisa Oviedo-Perez, will receive his recognition as a cum laude at the PICC on April 24. He plans to pursue a degree in medicine.

ANOTHER street party is set on April 24 as part of the festivities for the 2009 Bangus Festival celebration.
