Mayors' league hands off on Pulido
THE Pangasinan Mayors League (PML) is taking a hands-off stance on the one-month suspension ordered by the provincial board on one of its members, Mayor Nestor Pulido of Anda.

Mayor Mojamito Libunao of San Fabian, PML secretary-general, said the league, headed by Mayor Ramon Guico Jr. of Binalonan, has yet to meet about the matter.
"City remains strong." -- Mayor Fernandez
Mayor Alipio Fernandez Jr., in his State of the City Address, declared that Dagupan remains "strong".
At the same time, he rallied officials and the people to "rise to make this city better than we have known”.
Fernandez, speaking on January 26 before the Sangguniang Panlungsod presided by Vice Mayor Belen Fernandez held at the Dagupan City People’s Astrodome, credited the stability and successes of the city to “innovative governance” and  “shared responsibilities”.

Bigger Bangus Festival to unfold this summer
A GRANDER Dagupan Bangus Festival is now being planned by the city government as part of a strategy to stimulate economic activity in the midst of the financial crisis.

The executive committee in charge of organizing the event, headed by Vice Mayor Belen Fernandez, has started consulting various sectors, including local businessmen and barangay chairmen, for the planning of the month-long summer spectacle which will start on the first week of April.

Dagupan's Liga backs Gumarang
THE Liga ng Barangay in Dagupan City has thrown its "full and unconditional support" to Punong Barangay Angelito Gumarang of Bonuan Gueset over his arrest and detention two weeks ago.
In a resolution issued last January 26, the league condemned the action of policemen who arrested and detained Gumarang as "unlawful and blatant abuse of authority".
BM Mendoza's ouster sought
Mayor Nestor Pulido of Anda vowed to initiate a move to seek the ouster of Provincial Board Member Von Mark Mendoza as chairman of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan blue-ribbon committee.
The blue-ribbon is a quasi-judicial committee on good government and accountability of public officers.
Pulido said Mendoza showed "incompetence, partiality and lack of prudence" in the exercise of due process in legislation.
Decorp, CSI are top Dagupan taxpayers
THE Dagupan Electric Corporation (Decorp), franchise holder of the electricity distribution in Dagupan and several neighboring towns, was the biggest payer of business taxes in the city for 2008, contributing P6.9million.

A list of top 10 business taxpayers and 10 top realty taxpayers released by City Treasurer Romelita Alcantara on Friday showed that City Supermarket Inc., which is owned by Vice Mayor Belen Fernandez, is in close second with a payment of P6.8 million in both business and real property taxes.

City loses appeal vs. MetroState
THE Court of Appeals has denied the appeal filed by the Dagupan City government on the decision of a lower court regarding the civil case filed by MetroState Realty Corporation.
But the city is not giving up the fight as City Legal Officer George Mejia, upon the instruction of Mayor Alipio Fernandez Jr., has already filed a motion for r
econsideration on January 20.
MetroState is a private company that is constructing a two-storey tourism/commercial building on a lot owned by the city at the former Magsaysay Park just in front of the city hall.
